Bio:

Born in the coastal town of Bosa, Sardinia, Alberto Citzia took his first steps into the world of wing foiling in his hometown of Bosa Marina. At the time, the sport was still in its infancy. After just a few minutes on the water, his journey paused—only to reignite years later in Porto Pollo, Sardinia, where passion took over and the path to professionalism began. The official start of his wing foil journey came on 25 August 2023.

Since then, Alberto has rapidly progressed, driven by an unrelenting ambition to become Wing Foil Race World Champion—and eventually represent the sport at the Olympic Games, should the discipline earn its place there.

Approach & Mindset:

Alberto views training not just as a means to improve but as a fundamental part of the lifestyle. “All water sports require a good amount of hours to be practised in a fluid and harmonious way,” he explains. With wing foil still developing as a discipline, every hour on the water counts—especially at a professional level.

He advises newcomers to avoid starting alone, ensuring they avoid early mistakes and frustration. Above all, Alberto believes passion must override all barriers:

“If your desire is to learn and navigate, never give up. Don’t let money stop you—you’ll always find a way to progress.”

On Sponsorship:

Sponsorship has played a pivotal role in Alberto’s rise. For him, it’s not a hobby perk—it’s the foundation that has enabled him to keep chasing his dream.

“It’s important to see sponsorship as a job rather than fun. Without it, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to get this far.”

Why Wing Foil?

To Alberto, wing foiling is freedom in its purest form.

“The connection it gives you with the water and the wind is unique. The ability to sail in any conditions, in any place, makes it the most versatile sport of all.”

However, he doesn’t shy away from the challenges the sport faces—most notably, the high cost of equipment and the need for access to the sea or a large lake, which can make it feel like an elite sport reserved for a few.
